We’d been having regular Occupational Therapy sessions for two years and had made very little progress. I had been told that Cameron had mild Motor Planning problems but felt that this was only a small part of the picture. I began researching learning and developmental disorders and this led me to Lee-Anne. During our first appointment with her the relief I felt was remarkable – I finally had a sense of hope and optimism because I knew that for the first time someone was really “seeing” my son. Lee-Anne’s kind, understanding and extremely patient manner, along with her incredible knowledge and insight, switched on a light and the pieces of the puzzle began to fit.
We began having regular appointments with Lee-Anne and commenced a program at home of Brain Gym and Rhythmic movement exercises. The improvements were immediate. Cameron’s stress levels dropped dramatically, he became calmer and could express what he was feeling. He suddenly developed a strong ability to assert and stand up for himself. He was happier going to school, began participating in class activities and his confidence grew. The anxiety had lifted.
A year later and Cameron is a very happy and confident boy. His social relationships have improved out of sight – he now interacts well with other kids and his circle of friends is growing all the time. He is now much more co-coordinated and aware of his body and movement. He is able to fully express his feelings, thoughts and opinions about absolutely everything! He is full of enthusiasm for all he does (including school) and has an amazing sense of humour and ability to relate to people that is way beyond his years. We still have some way to go academically but when I look back to only a year ago and remember a little boy that had trouble remembering his ABC’s and today see that my son is beginning to read and write, I realise the gains have been massive. I am confident that by continuing on this path we will see him reach his full potential.
My son continues to enjoy his Brain Gym and Rhythmic movement exercises and loves his visits to Lee-Anne.
As a parent watching Cameron change, grow and develop through this process, I feel a joy that is indescribable.
I am incredibly grateful to Lee-Anne for all she has done to give my beautiful boy the chance he deserves to fully express himself, relate to others and learn.
